Sean and I have only been married 6 months, so our exact 6 month anniversary marked our first baby scan EVER! We actually forgot it was our anniversary on the day, shocking! Too much excitement.
My best friend Omi, as well as my bootcamp instructor and friend Jono had mentioned to me how wonderful Dr Brink was. So after doing some name dropping - she wasn't taking on more patients until next year- I was able to get an appointment. To be honest, it was the first time I'd even been to a gynae (that's a story for another post) and that's why I needed word of mouth on this step. After waiting an hour for our appointment and having a loo break even in-between that (a major side effect of pregnancy, ha ha), we were escorted into Dr Brink's rooms at Fourways Life Hospital.
I had been taking Preg Omega PLUS from day 1, and the Doc told me that it wasn't necessary so soon to take that supplement and that it would only make me nauseas? (but one day without it I'm exhausted, so I'm still taking it :) I even have to keep it in a daily marked vitamin case. Yes, I have been heavily affected by the "porridge brain", and known now affectionately as Pro Nutro.
I changed into a gown, filled up a cup and lay on the bed. Anther lady was in the room too, they were trying out a brand new ultra sound machine, I was the Guinea-pig, but the machine looked bling, so I was happy.
Doc inserted the ultra sound transducer and voila, there he/she sits, growing up a storm with a strong heart beat that stopped mine for a moment. I didn't know that you could only hear the heart beat for approx 2 seconds, as the device heats up the tissue inside and isn't good for baby-shoes if you hear it too long.
Here's some pics of our baby-shoes (my mom still calls me that) at 8 weeks and 3 days, expected due date 4th June 2012, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayness :
